Muhammad Patel

Muhammad Patel was born and raised on the Caribbean Island of Barbados. Muhammad completed his secondary education at Harrison College and pursued a BSc. Accounting at the University of West Indies Cave Hill Campus. Muhammad is a professional member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Barbados (ICAB) and completed the ACCA professional accounting and Certificate in Business Valuation qualifications. 

Muhammad’s professional background includes working with the Big4 firms, EY and KPMG, in Barbados and the East Caribbean from September 2010 to July 2017. Muhammad initially started out in Audit at EY where he gained experience leading engagement teams providing assurance services across a number of industries including Hospitality, Retail & Distribution, International Development, Renewable Energy, Oil & Gas Distribution and Banking. 

Muhammad transitioned to Financial Advisory Services in 2015. Muhammad’s work during this time involved assisting clients in several industries across the Caribbean basin in achieving their strategic goals on projects involving: Insolvency and restructuring, Industry research and benchmarking, Business valuation, Buy-side/sell-side M&A due diligence, IFRS impairment reviews and Strategic planning. 

Muhammad’s competency in the Tourism sector is varied including working on audits of luxury hotels such as Sandy Lane and Cobblers Cove, providing valuation and M&A consulting services to a wide range of hotels in Barbados and the EC and working on a range of projects during his time as Business Development Manager of Elegant Hotels Group. At Elegant Hotels he lead M&A activities, provided support and worked directly with the CEO and executive team on developing and executing company strategy. In addition to leading M&A activities, Muhammad’s work included: 

– Strategic planning; 

– Financial feasibility; 

– Cost control; 

– Project management; 

– Preparing CEO reports to local and Plc boards; and 

– Maintaining a database of industry and internal statistics. 

During his time at Elegant and as an independent consultant Muhammad valued and assessed over 30+ hotels both on the buy and sell-side and consulted on several Joint Venture and rebranding opportunities.
